Chain cleaning gizmo
 

When I do a major chain clean I use an Abba stand but in between those times (especially in the winter) I wipe the chain down with 30 weight gear oil but this requires me to walk the bike down the drive to get the full chain covered.

I got tired of this and bought one of these wheel spinners:

I got mine from ebay but they are about the same price. The spinner is placed in front of the rear wheel and the bike pushed forward up the ramp and onto the rollers, requiring very little effort.

It takes (me) two hands to rotate the wheel but I've cut down on my spinach consumption recently. If you don't get the bike square it will tend to walk to one side on the rollers as the wheel is turned but it hasn't caused me any problems.

I'm sure it was made in China but it seems rugged and makes me wonder how could they make it and ship it around the world for so little money. Then I thought this is why our machinists are unemployed so I tried to stop thinking about it (but kept the guilt to add to my pile).

sorry to add to the guilt pile (its on mine as well) but they also dont have to worry about the environment, worker health n safety or fair employment law plus its a dictatorship!

Hey presto: chain maintenance now means topping the chain lube oil up.

I thought I was being clever specifying the centre stand when I bought my Trumpet. But oh no. It's a doddle to rock the bike onto the CS but the back wheel stays on the deck, making me wonder if the dealer installed the wrong one... To clean/oil the chain I use a piece of 3/4 inch ply under the stand and off we go.
