chainless/beltless bicycle
Looks like a neat system:

Re: chainless/beltless bicycle
Now that is really cool.
God knows how much a bike with that lot would be, however it's nice to see they have the backing of a big brand. I do wonder how well that mechanism would function after a slide on tarmac. |
Re: chainless/beltless bicycle
That looks amazing, but I do wonder about the forces which keep the pinion in contact with the plate - to me it looks to me that it's just the axle maintaining the friction. If it ever starts skipping, it's game over. There's also no way of free-wheeling at the moment ... I'm guessing this will be limited to track bikes for now.
... still, pretty cool. |
Re: chainless/beltless bicycle
As others have said it would probably benefit from being contained in a frame or swingarm like on a motorbike...but I've also bent the chain gear mech falling off many a bicycle.

As a cyclist we're a pretty conservative bunch, although this is neat, itsgoing to take a lot to convince us to give up chain drive. Bad enough with rim vs disc brakes at the moment :) |
