Rear shock change over problem
Hi, I have an old curvy and got a YSS shock second hand, looked in very good nick. Followed the instructions and all was going well. Torqued the top bolt on the suspension fine (50Nm), but either I stripped the bottom thread or it was already stripped. The YSS bottom thread is part of the U section on the shock. I have emailed the company to see if I can get a replacement, if not could I use a bolt and nut with blue locktite? It will have to fit between the 2 drop rods.
Also the YSS U section seemed slightly wider than the stock, should there be washers / spacers to fit on the inside? Thanks |

Put it all back together with the old shock, will be having another look this weekend

I'd do it with a bolt with a nut on anyway. You'll want it the perfect length though so as not to rub against the dog bones either side. You'll also want a proper high tensile bolt and nut as it's taking a lot of stress. When I fitted a different shock on my SV I ordered the Kawasaki nut and bolt recommended for the ZX10r shock and cut the bolt down ever so slightly after fitting it for size to see how much to trim off to give good clearance from the dog bones.
Not sure if the same nut and bolt would work for you but I got Kawasaki parts.. Bolt #: 92153-1546 Nut #: 92210-1139 I ordered them from Fowlers and they got them in farily quickly. From memory they were about £5 each. |

Thanks Adam, went with bolt and nut supplied by the tool room at work to see how it works. They did say it was high tensile but will get a correct one as you suggested or piece of mind. Definitely better that the aluminium threaded shock.

If you go to a specific bike unit and select "specification" it will show all the relevant details for lengths, widths, bolt diameters, spring rate etc. I've noticed that there is some subtle variation in widths of eyes and forks on different models, some might be 30mm, some 28 or 32mm for example. The site also has the option to select specific features (length, eye/fork fitting etc) to filter the search. Very useful for searching for alternative units for a particular bike. |
