Road tax VED going up in April
 

We discussed this in the past, so just a reminder.

VED rates go up from April 1st. If like me you have a bike (or 2) off road for winter and are looking at putting it back on the road from April, you can tax it online just before the rate increases and avoid the increase, even though it is going to run from April 1st.

If you are renewing a current VED you can do it quite a bit in advance, something like 3 weeks before the due date, providing it is a continuation.

If you are taxing a vehicle currently on SORN, you can do it in advance but only a couple of DAYS. The DVLA don't go out of their way to advertise this for obvious reasons, I can't at the moment find the details on the gov.uk website (not unusual), but it's there somewhere. Maybe someone can find it?

I've just taxed a vehicle today (30th March) to run from 1st April, the old (current) tax rate is payable.

NOTE - if you are going to tax a vehicle to run from 1st April make ABSOLUTELY SURE you check the right start date, it will give you the option of 1st March, which obviously you don't want, or 1st April.
