Crash bung position
 

This is the question I was trying to ask a few months back but didn't ask very well. So here goes again with pictures...
Where have you put your crash bungs? On the engine bolt (1st picture) or the Frame bolt (2nd picture)

Confused. The Frame bolt you have a picture of is the main engine mount, the engine bolt, which is where R&Gs fit.

I used to have a set that attached to the engine bolt as shown. After an accident, i replaced the nylon bit on the end and thought nothing of it.

A while later, i got spare R&G bungs, which fit the Frame bolt.

When i tried to remove the bolt from the old engine mounted 'shrooms, the bolt had bent, and sized, thus snapping, and costing £150 to get the bolt removed etc.

Soooooo, i would highly recomend the frame bolt mounting method. I have had another off with them montes there, and no problems wahtso ever.

Jut remember, they are all mainly to protect the frame, not body work. It all depends on how the bike goes down.

I don't have bungs on my bike, but if I were to buy any, then it'd have to be the frame mounted ones for two reasons:

1. They are mounting to a more substantial piece of metalwork, thus reducing the risk of writing the frame off;
2. They're shorter, meaning that any side load will generate less force at the mount, further reducing the risk of a bent frame.

Actually, I'd probably be more inclined to have some made to my own spec, wich would be oval or teardrop shaped - something like the Motrax knee sliders. These would spread the load better and look a little less ugly.

Hang on, arnt they normally frame AND engine bolt.....or am I missing something??

Apart from the headlight bit thats a really nice looking bike. well done. What size is the rear tyre though?

That was my point, yes. But for arguements sake in this instance I believe the other (i.e not where the R&G's would fit) is being named the 'engine bolt.

Its all in peoples definitions. They mount within the frame recess via the engine bolt.

I hopes that clearer. no? Oh well, im off hom so i dont care :roll: :cry:
