HELP!!! My baby no go
 

Thought about selling my baby some months ago due to my driving ban, but couldn't bring myself to do it. :oops:
However with the end of my ban imminent, I decided to do some work on it. New can, undertray,fender extender, that sort of thing.

Anyway having charged the battery and run it a few times, I started it today, blipped the throttle twice, it died and now it won't start. It turns over but will not start, there is fuel in it and I have checked all connections and fuses, but can find nothing wrong. :?

sounds like fuel. Maybe a bit of crap in the line/tank got drawn through and blocked summit. I assume its not an injection model. Can you drain the carbs?

No sorry its an SK3 injection and we can smell fuel getting through but its not firing :cry:

i presume you spark plugs are ok??

You charged the battery and 'ran it a few times'.. Does that mean to say you just ran the engine but didn't take it out for a blatt? If so it sounds exactly what my bike does when the battery doesn't have enough charge in it to spark (I've got a habit of killing my battery :lol: ).

Try jump starting it if you haven't already (either off a pack or another vehicle's battery while it's engine's running and make sure the choke's open (I'm not trying to teach granny to suck eggs but I don't know what you've done already. :) ).

could just be fouled plugs. :?

When you started it before, did you allow it to warm up to full temp or just ran it for a short time?

When I worked in the motor industry, we developed a plug fouling test which was basically a cold start, blip the throttle a few times, and then stop. Allow to cool and repeat. That'll guarantee plug fouling after a while.

If it is, remove the plugs (do they look wet and black?), hold in pliers/mole grips, and gently heat the business end electrodes over a gas flame (kitchen hob or camping stove etc) for several minutes.

Check gap and re-fit. Hopefully it'll fire up again.

Don't just start it and repeatedly blip the throttle. Start it, ease choke off gradually (carbs) while gently easing the speed up to 3-4000rpm. Hold it steady until it's warmed up or the neighbours complain. This is the best way to clean the plugs properly.

Sometimes the plugs can't be cleaned successfully and new ones are the answer. :roll:

sounds like it could be the plugs so I will try again tomorrow and let you know.

How long has the fuel been in the tank. Petrol has a shelf life before it starts to turn into jelly

You can do the rear plug in about 5 minutes on the old bike, so i guess the FI one would be the same. The front's pretty easy too, just a wee bit harder.

the fuel is fresh so I think it most likely the plugs :cry:
