Trip to Barcelona
 

I'm hoping to go to Barcelona next year to watch the GP and am looking into riding there on the old sv. As myself and my friends who will be coming ( 1 on er5, 1 on fazer 600 and 1 who has a 125 comet :shock: but will hopefully have done DAS and got new bike before then !! ) haven't ridden abroad before I was wondering what gems of advice you guys could give me. We haven't sorted out an exact route yet but will be camping along the way and give ourselves 4 days to get there so it's not a mad rush. Any info about good routes, must sees, riding advice, getting onto ferries etc will be great. :D

Have a read through the "Eurotour" forum, there's plenty of tips in there, you may have to search for them a bit though....

Make it a bit of a holiday too, try pricing the portsmouth bilbao, or plymouth santander ferry, and then you will get the chance to have a good blast over the mountains to the GP.

Just that its a fair hike to ride down through France on little bikes like an SV or an ER5

Other things to remember. They drive on t'other side :P

Very important to remember as wheelnut stated! They drive on the opposite side of the road, to what your use too. Do not let your mind wonder :shock: and keep thinking RIGHT SIDE! RIGHT SIDE! :wink:

Having a fiend whos parents have a villa just outside Terrasa (or something like that?) just North of Barcelona, I've been down there a few times now.

About 850 miles give or take a bit. not a problem on the SV, and can be done in a day (long day though).

I'd recommend stopping on route and making it a two day trip, if it's something new to you.

Try a detour through Andora if you get the chance, nice roads, and bike stuff is all tax free.

:shock: :) 850 miles! Just go the additional 150 miles and qualify for the Iron-Butt award. 1,000 miles in 24 hours or less on two wheels! You da man! :wink:

Cheers for the suggestions, I don't think the butt would allow me to do it in one day though :crutches: .

Like I say it's in it's early stages of planning but will let you know ( and probably ask more advice ) once we have things sorted.

Make sure you have recovery insurance. Not just breakdown but accident as well. And check the accident cover, most limit repatriation costs to the value of the bike.

I did the same trip this year on my SV650 and my mate on his CB500.

2 days riding down. took the chunnel over, only 35mins and you're on the motorway in France. Got to just outside Toulouse on day 1 and stayed in a b&b then all the way to barcelona on day2.

went through the tunnel that goes through the pyrenees on the way down and took only free roads.

on the way back we had a ticket for the 10pm chunnel and so legged it back via toll roads the whole way, beautiful roads they have over there. went over the pyrenees this time and lost the feeling in my fingers it was that cold (but dry) up there.

Did Barcelona to London in 15 hours on the way back. That Gel seat was well worth the money!

Had a great GP, the track is ace and didnt see a drop of rain the whole week we were there. Went to a beachfront bar where all the waitresses wore thongs and bra :shock:
