Heated grips - photo

Okay, call me pathetic but got the Oxford grips after last week's cold snap left my little finger blue and aching when I got to work.

Fitted the grips today, but the glue takes 24 hours to dry so can't connect up till tomorrow. I reckon I'll put the control box where you see it cable tied in the photo. Any opinions on positioning or advice about heated grips would be welcome:

See here for a pretty in-depth guide on how to fit them to a K3! Be warned, it's not as easy as the box makes out!!

I wouldn't worry too much about the glue issue... With the grips turned on it'll dry the glue out quicker.. And any way, it's superglue (if you have the right grips, it is at least!!) which is pretty much dry as hard as it'll get in about 5 minutes!!

Also be very wary about where you position the control box... You have to be 110% certain it will not interfere with the steering and that it will not chaff on the headstock, etc.
The sticky pad that comes with it is also not exactly very strong so you will probably have to use some superglue on that too!!
Another thing to think about is how simple it will (or won't) be to operate while riding!

Advice? Yes- don't put the control box there, it's HIDEOUS!

Looks worse in the flesh, i had mine there for a while and could never get used to it. Now I've got it hidden down by the idle adjuster, where it hangs, in a rather ugly style, by its cable. Should really sort that out :)

That's where I putmine until it was wiped out!

I just left it hanging there too, with the intention to devise some sort of fixing mechanism to tidy it up & make it easier to use!

I've mounted the control box by the clocks.

I'd rather it wasnt there, but I think its the best compramise between ease of use and descreteness.

Okay - they're all fitted up and they do warm up, but I gave them about 10 minutes whilst stood still today and they warmed up to a reasonable warmness, but not what I'd call hot. I haven't tried them on the move yet, but the engine was ticking over.

Do they (the Oxford ones) achieve a higher degree of warmth than I am feeling?

I am wondering if they will get warmer while I am driving along (like a car heater does).
