Sidestand - Get ur head round this one!
 
Been thinking bout this 4 some time now!

My sidestand switch died on me one day, dead, nuda!
si i duly removed it and connected in the two wires so the dam thing would start!

Now i got a cheap stand of ebay 3 months ago that came wth the switch!
so i connect it all in and..... the bike wount start on the stand!!! only when it is kicked up it will start!
Now b 4 the old swith died it would strt on the stand providing it was in nutral, now it just wont start on the stand full stop!

i am in 2 minds about wether jsut to remove it again, but i can just see myself falling off on a left hander cause i forgot to put it up all the way!

Any thoughts???

Put a note on your dash, SIDESTAND!!

When the dealer was running through things when I first looked at taking an SV out for a test ride, he said that it won't start unless the clutch is fully engaged, regarless of whether it's in neutral, and whether the sidestand is up or down.

A bit of playing onceI'd bought the bike and got it home showed him to be perfectly correct. Don't know whether this is an oddity of my particular machine (in which case I'm not surprised in the least) or just a 'thing' about '99 SVS X's.

If it's an 'X' thing then perhaps that's where you replacement stand came from. :?:

Mine needs the clutch to start, no matter what. If it's in gear then it won't start if the sidestand is down.

I was under the impression that all Suzukis came with a switch in the clutch lever, so that you had to pull it in to start.
There's also one linking sidestand and gears, so it won't run with the sidestand down and in gear, this seems to be the one causing a problem, not sure how it could, though, since you should have only replaced the switch.

Ahh, could well be. I profess ignorance here really as I've mainly been on Kwakkas and Hondas before now.

I did have a lumpy old GS500, but that dear ol' thing would start no matter what - including being abandoned in my garage for 18 months! :oops:

I also have the clutch switch on mine but that only stops the inital starting of the bike!
(pull it in to press go)
But if the stand is down and the clutch is in or out it won't start!


I remeber to do kick up the stand, but i dont want to run the risk!

had the same thing on my bandit - we (well hubby did anyway!) had to fiddle with the wiring when the switch played up and after that it would not start with the sidestand down (which was a pain because you then you cant warm the bike up whilst putting your gear on :x )

At least I had the centre stand but I could never get it on the damn thing it was too heavy! :roll: but you cant even do that on the sv :(

I can't help thinking that the problem is to do with the connection between the sidestand switch and the neutral switch. I.e. the only switch affected the cut out is the sidestand one, whereas it should be that it only cuts out if both sidestand is down and not in neutral.

Its only an electrical loop inhibit so something (wire) has broken.

ps Have you fitted a TRE as this fits in the GPS plug bike could think its in gear. Just a thought.
