My first speeding ticket...A Xmas Tale

O.K I deserved it...no problem with that but...

motorists and the Christmas spirit...damn them.. it just dont exist.

Travelling down to see my old mum ( 120kms away) and the traffic was slow and heavy. Creeping along for mile after mile on the highway in the holiday traffic but the day was beautiful and I didn t care too much. Suddenly the two lane highway opened up and I was in front and there was nothing but open road. Ho, ho , ho...off we go - 130km (ish) and around the big sweepers. There was 20 to 30 cars coming the other way and absolutely no indication that Mr Plod was sitting there on the side of the road around the next corner with his big bad radar gun. Usually someone would give a bit of a warning flash from the headlights but not this time...oh no ..it is Xmas after all - goodwill to all men etc...).

Officer pulled me over and gave me a ticket. Nicely, he wrote it out at 115Km even tho' he nailed me on the corner at 123kmh.

(His little present saved me $200 and 20 demerit points - still cost me $80 tho') See Xmas is alive and well - Thanx Officer

Motorists suck...

dont know what those kms are in old money (mph!) but it sucks any way - sounds like their just as bad out there as they are here - bad luck mate :cry:

As per

Hard lines mate not a wanted Xmas pressie
123kph=76mph
115kph=71mph
What are your speed limits? I gather you were riding on dual
carriage way Here in UK we would be allowed 70 mph legal with a little
bit of tolerance for speedo error so its very seldom we would be done for
the 75mph The main drag where I live you would probably get tail ended if you do less than 80mph=128/130kph because 50+% of the vehicles go faster than the legal limit

You open the tap and take your chances the world over
Cheers Mac

Our limit is only 100Kph with a tolerance to around 110kph.

I always try to behave myself during the Christmas, New Years, and most holidays here in the USA.
The police here have a very heavy presence during those time frames. Sorry you got nabbed! Just check it off as a lesson learned on the highways of life. :wink:
Sure would of been nice to get a warning from on coming traffic though!
Cheers, Richard

So you said that you got Demerit points ? Is that the same as a totting up procedure like we have ie 12 points and you lose your licence ? Sounds like a real bummer for Crimbo time !

Shooter 31-12-04 12:51 AM

Demerit Points - I got 20 for the offence but the scale is to 100 over 3 years I think.

(The officer saved me a further 20 by his Xmas spirit tho')

Hooray (NOT!) - He could have saved you any points at all & let you off all together :wink:

Shooter 31-12-04 01:03 AM

Yeah , he could have done that but I was philosophical and thought about how many kms I had done that had not cost me a dime ( if you get what I mean) :roll:

I got two in the last month, 104mph on the M25 and 49mph in a 30! good going right lol. the first was a journey from wales, i was so desperate to get home, my ass was killing me.

while im here, ive got the most annoying rubbing noise on my bike and its only when the throttle is on but its also perfectly timed as in something on a wheel or a precision moving part as it increases with the speed of the bike but the mystery is when the throttle is closed it disappears.

its sounds like paper rubbing or something and yes ive checked everywhere for something caught in the brakes etc. Its really annoying!
