Two things to do with the standard system: Change the bulbs for Philips Hi Vision Plus and adjust the beam slightly upwards (honestly).

Some things to point out:

1. High intensity bulbs will cause the perspex to yellow.
2. The bulbs cost more, 50-100% more.
3. On average they last 50% of a standard bulb. Halfords say it can be less than this.
4. The colour will be different to the middle light on your SV.

You could do what truck drivers do. They don't fanny on with bulbs, they just mount more lights! I've seen halagon bulbs in SV fairings before.

Greater power bulbs might do this, however the perspex on my (naked) SV remains pristine after 18 months use.

I haven't found this but if it means they last three years instead of five then certainly you should consider this :roll:

Oh and don't spray WD40 on the filaments as they don't like it.

Mine are fine on my SVS after 18 months too.

I've replaced that too, now they match! Cunning, eh? :roll:

I've fitted Osram Silverstars in my car and other bike (rarely use the SV at night so haven't done that).

They are significantly better than the "standard" Osram 60/55W H4 bulbs which were in the car. They are still 60/55W but more efficient at making light, so heat output will be no greater.

Considering the SVS uses 45/45W bulbs as std, they'd be an even more significant improvement.

2 good reasons for using top brand bulbs (Phillips or Osram etc) is that they do have effective UV filtering to minimise any yellowing (which un-branded cheapo ones probably don't have), and the filaments are in the right place so the focussing is correct (which it may or may not be with cheapo bulbs). OK they cost more in the first place, but to a large extent you get what you pay for. I'd sooner pay a few quid extra for what should be a better quality product.

Looks like i'm not blind after all, and the lights are rubbish. It looks like a quality bulb upgrade is the way to go.

Just added it to my favs. for future reference.

Mine has Philips hi vision bulbs in, I think (didn't do it myself) where they have resided for 3 years... no yellowing perspex.

So what's with people saying the perspex yellows them, it's the only thing that stopped me upgrading?
