3 VERY near misses on my way in this morning

well, as the title says.
travelling down the A40 and had 3 seperate incidents of people changing lanes on me as i filtering past or about to.
a merc, a white van and another merc.
they all resulted in a full on emergency stop (or slow down)... followed by a slight brown trouser moment and then that feeling in your stomach a few hundred yards later when the adreniline stops.

even resorted to tapping on the van window with the carbon fibre knuckles of my glove, the guy sh!t himself as he didn't have a clue i was there..

Thats at least a months worth of near misses in one day. i'm putting it down to many people having not driven for a couple of weeks over xmas and therefore driving like wa**ers on their first day back.

anyone else have the same trouble this morning?

take it easy mate. on days like those i stop for a fag break to gather myself before venturing out again. take up smoking, it may save your life!!

bad luck though, hope your return journey is better

Not this morning but yesterday!

Slowing down for a muppet in an MPV in front of me and another motorbike hits me from behind! Only bumped the back tyre. I bet he put some skid marks in his leathers as well as on the road! TW@

My 65 mile journey this morning was luckely uneventful, just the journey home to deal with.

I nearly got creamed by a HGV this morning, I was waiting to turn right onto a main road, he was coming towards me & indicated to pull into the road I'm sat in, so I started to pull out, he hammers on the brakes, unbelievable noise and stops inches from me. I pointed out his indicator but he shook his head at me and then drove off.

Serves me right for assuming he knew how to drive, I usually assume people are stupid but as he put his indicator on...

It's Gods' way of telling you to take it easy :D

On a scooter you are effectively invisible to most cars - even if they see you, you'll probably only register in their minds as a 'big pushbike', and logic says you don't usually get those on the A40, so in reality you don't exist, so it's OK to change lanes . . . sorry officer, didn't see him

Easier on the SV - got a bit more 'presence', especially with a decent exhaust :D

always put full beam on when filtering lanes, gets some at least to see you...

Yep, I don't generally agree with full beam in the day. Allegedly it makes it harder for drivers to judge your distance and consequently, speed. However, when filtering, alterting drivers to your prescence is the most important thing.

Just an etiquette question: I see a lot of guides suggest giving a wave/nod of thanks to drivers who move out of the way when filtering etc. I'm normally all in favour of that and do when people let you out, flash to let you through, etc. However, when filtering I concentrate 100% on getting through in one piece and don't even consider waving to other drivers. Maybe it's being rude, but even spending half a second to turn your head, nod then look back ahead in front and refocus to the correct distance is enough to take you off when filtering IMHO.

Normally so long as its safe to do so i'll tip my head either left or right depending who moved to give acknowledgement....

i'd rather pee off a few people with full beam then get knocked off.... only do it when between lanes and solid traffic otherwise leave normal lights on
