Is the statement in the BBC news article based on a legal requirement?..................The signs will now have to be no more than two thirds of a mile from the nearest camera. .........................
If so, I know of at least three sets of signs around Swindon that do not comply!!!!!

DOH! got done again on sunday morning. Bang to rights, can't complain. As politely and professionally nicked as I could wish to be. The only defence is that I wasn't dangerous imo, open road, no traffic, dry and good vis.

The irony is, I bought my SV last april and since then I've collected 6 points on my previously pristine 10 year old licence in the works van. I mentioned this to the traffic cop who suggested I get a small plate that the cameras couldn't read! Even so, I think I'll slow down for 3 years or so.

I got 6 points in the first 6 weeks of owning my SV and I said the same 'must slow down for 3 years!', back to my old self already! Just keep an extra close eye out for cameras!

If you slow down you'll have more chance of seeing them :thumbsup:

Sadly, there is some "get out clause" for cameras. Something to the effect that even if a given camera contravenes the legislation governing their use, placement, appearence/visibility, etc. it still doesn't give exemption to motorists caught by them

Remember when they didn't all have the yellow backs on them? When the yellow backs rule came in, you could still be "done" by a non-backed cameras. :shock:

Anyone hear about Brumstom's proposal? He wants speed cameras deployment range from an accident spot to increase to 12 miles! I wonder what constititues an "accident spot"? If it's any road accident, ever, you could probably put cameras on 99% of the UK roads :(

Did the nice policemn really advise you to get a small plate - sure he would have fined you for that as well as give you a speeding ticket - double bubble! Also, small plates can be read by the camera's - I know :cry: I has a clean license for 19 years before getting my SV. Got 3 points in the first 3 months. Haven't had any further thought for the last 15 months - not slowed, just more observant

Yup, he honestly, really and truly told me to get a small plate for the SV. I wasn't on it when I got nicked, I was in the works van.

You're right though, it'd have to be pretty bloody tiny for a camera not to read it. Am I right in thinking it's not an endorsable offence though?

No an illegal plate is a non endorsable FPN....£30 however this is reported to DVLA, if you get a couple of tickets they can take you registration number off you.
