XJR1300 HELP
 

My dad is thinking of buying a Yamaha XJR1300, does anyone know the differences between the XJR1300 and the XJR1300SP apart from the Ohlins suspension and the colour scheme. The bike he has seen is a 2002 model.

I have had a quick look for a busy forum for the XJR's but i cannot see one, and Google aint much help either, so i thought id ask you guys

I don't think there is any other difference, certainly no extra power or loss of weight.

Good bikes if you like that sort of thing, though getting a little long in the tooth now.

XJRs are good fun, of the bikes that ape the style of the late '70s UJM, they probably are the most convincing looks wise, and they probably feel and ride the closest to their ancestors too, just about all of the competition rides better, although it must be said that the GSX1400 is a big fat whale of a motorbike, (although I kinda like it :) ). On the plus side the Yamaha motor is strong and not in a very high state of tune, so they last well, sadly the same can't be said of the finish, it's actually pretty poor - even by Yamaha standards - so even though a bike that's a couple of years and a few thousand miles old, might work fine, they can look dreadful. The rear shocks on on the "SP" model the are Ohlins in name only, they most definately aren't up to the standard of the "Real McCoy" Ohlins articles, Yamaha own Ohlins and these are a little "badge engineering" excercise, that's not to say they're rubbish, only that they are little better than the ones on the "cooking" XJR, the paintjob of the SP is plenty cool though. 8)
The Kawasaki is the best one of these '70s throwbacks, it's not a modern bike that looks like an old one though, but it's then one that feels the most developed, haven't ridden a new CB-Enormous yet though.
