Re - One Cylinder Wonder!

Has anyone else experinced problems with water reaching the front spark plug and causing their SV650S (04) to run on one cylinder? I have taken to spraying duck oil up behind the radiator to try to help protect it but after heavy rain the front plug simply stops sparking and i'm running on a one cylinder wonder! Bit dangerous as it gives no warning when it decides to cut back in! Any advice? Is it just a design fault with the front spray guard? Also my fuel gauge has packed up! Bit strange, this is my third SV and up till now i've never had a problem. I have done 13,000 miles in 11 months though - in all weather - could this be the cause?

Thanks

a fender extender and/or an undertray should sort it out.

quite a few SV's do it, even if the dealers say otherwise.

i dont even own an SV and i still know the answer to this question . .. sad aint it.

Correct on the fender extender.... try a search for front plug or one cylinder you'll find loads of tips...

dunno how an undertray is gonna help tho, bikeageboy obviously hasn't taken his medication today

It's still under warranty, take it back to the dealers... When they've sorted it, fit a fender extenda (as extra insurance )

Err...yes, just about everyone, at some time or another. Enjoy the camaraderie

As said, an extender for the front mudguard is a useful fix. Some people have sealed up the front plug cap with various different things, but my feeling is stopping the water spraying up there in the first plale is a surer way.

However, Mr Suzuki doesn't recognise it as a problem :toss:

That's because they think everyone should be riding our SVs like you and I Cloggsy... in dry conditions only!

K4 models should be OK - mine has a rubber flap that hangs down and protects the spark plug, which earlier models don't have. I've never had any probs - but then I've got a fender extender as well just in case :D

My 03 has it too.

My K4 did have a rubber flap, don't know where it is now, though it may have gone the same way as the left barend.
