Earplugs & Panniers

A strange combination i know.... but Summer is here (almost!) & these are 2 things i require to make exploring a little easier & more comfortable.

RIDE magazine had the Oxford Sport panniers as the best buy, but has anyone fitted them to an SV? There seems to be plent of them flitting around on Ebay nice & cheap.

My Helmet is not that expensive & a few years old, so I imagine much noisier than other more expensive models, but this being the 1st one i've owned I have no basis for comparison. Can anyone decent earplugs & where on the web to buy them from.

Cheers,
Ali.

Ps. £200 possible for a quiet lid?

I have an Oxford tank bag. Seems well made, with plenty of features. Oxford stuff normally gets good reviews. Based on my tank bag I would recommend their stuff.

For ear plugs, go to Ebay and type ear plugs. There are loads on there and they are cheap.

HTH.

Do you want disposable ear plugs or re-usable? If you want disposable then I recommend 3M 1100 earplugs, we get them through our supplier, Arco, I think. Cost is £8.95 + VAT for 100 pairs. These plugs give a noise reduction of 31dB and comply to regs EN 352-2-1993 Re-usable ones can be bought for about £1 upto £145.

A full set of Oxford soft luggage is on E-Bay for £53, this includes tank bag, tail pack and panniers, it is from the basic range but offers superb value. The company if Forest Edge Retail, I've used them before without any problems.

They do a trial pack with loads of different types of earplugs so you can see which ones fit best. You get about 20 pairs for less than £8.00

I originally got one of the variety packs from earplugs.gb. Very quick service but a touch pricey.

do a variety pack with Max, Max Lite, Laser Lite, and Quiet which is somewhat better value (I think), and chances are that one of these will suit you.

I use the green Max Lite, but the Quiet ones are so easy to fit they may suit you.

The trick is getting a good fit. Practice with the "reaching over your head and pulling your ear outwards while trying to yawn" technique!

Stick your head in your panniers. You can't hear a bloody thing :P

I load my truck regularly from Outu Kumpu in Sheffield and when you report to the office there is a dispenser for free earplugs :P

How many do you want?

I dont wear them very often cos I like the sond of a throbbing V Twin

in reality, the more expensive lids are likely to be noisier, they have better ventilation, a major cause of helmet noise, and ligher weight construction at the expense of sound deadening

Ear protection. These are the cheapest that I have found on the web.
