Fail MOT because of small Number Plate ?
 

I have a 7x5 Number Plate. Could this fail the MOT ?

if its not the correct size that means too large or too small it won't pass.
simple as that. i am not sure what the proper size is to be sure but i do know it when i see it!
there is a certain size for the letters & numbers as well as a set margin around the edge its all very strict and the cops are up on this. you should also have the plate lit, however the light should not be visable from the rear my plate is of the correct size and i have positioned it in such a way that it is lit my brake light.
you will fail on the tax disk as well it is a offence not to display it!! it should be clearly visable on the bike/car or whatever. hope this answers your questions & i do wish cartman would stop showing his @rse to me :roll:

just tape the tax disk to the screen that will pass (your screen is clear right) cos thats a fail as well your screen must be clear this applies to both tiny to large screen the rules do not discrimate between the two. all screens should be clear. mines not clear but then i dont need an mot for 3 years its a k4. :lol:

9"x7" or fail I'm afraid (unless you have a tester thats willing to turn a blind eye :wink: a'la race cans etc etc)

A simple solution would be to screw the original back on over the top, unless you have short indy stems. Youll need (I think) a little stick on reflector as well. You might get away with a 7x5. Perhaps a preemptive visit when you book the test to see the lie of the land :wink:

And on the subject of the tax disc, your bike can be clamped if it doesnt display a disc. This has happenned and was reported in MCN. THe guy concerned got let of the fine when he produced the disc but still had to pay the dvla release fee. In the article the dvla spokesman said they can and will carry out this activity anywhere in the country.

I'm extrapolating here, but having recently MOT's the SV while it was not taxed (on SORN), I'd say that the tax disc is not part of an MOT.

You can ride to/from a pre-arranged MOT while the bike is recorded as SORN perfectly legally (within some conditions, i.e. reasonably close and going direct to and from etc).

this is ture but as you said it has to be declared as sorn otherwise it sould be taxed. :)

I called the dealer up and he said as long as you can read the digits from 15 meters away it will pass without a problem.

Now I'm confused.

When i bought the bike it only had the small plate on it.

Where can you get plates ? - Dvla office ? ( I used to buy mine online )

And will i get the plate the same day ? as my MOT is on tuesday :?

now all (legal) number plates are made by registered suppliers and you need to provide documents to show you are the owner of the vehicle (usually registration doc). The plate supplier name and post code has to appear on the plate, along with various other blurb as laid out in the regs.

Check in your local Yellow Pages for number plate suppliers. Places like Halfords or Auto Accessory dealers often have facilities to produce them, and I think various Bike Dealers probably can too. If you're lucky they'll do it while you wait. Ring first and check, and make sure you have the required docs.
