Brakes Problem

Hi,

I have a slight problem with one of my front calipers. When the brake is not applied, the pad on the outside of the disc backs off the disc too far and allows the caliper to flex - even though it's securely fitted to the forks.

Over the weekend I had to force the pistons back (without removing pins/pads) on the other caliper in order to replace the wheel. Has this caused the problem?

I'm also fitting HEL lines at some point this week. Are there any special measures to use when attaching banjo bolts etc. Are they easy to align? Do they seal well? I've got 2 front and 1 rear to fit.
After 2 weekends of unseizing bolts and re-tapping holes I'm looking forward to facing 6 firmly seized pins...

Any advice appreciated!

Thank-you.

Jason

how did u force the pistons back on the other caliper? soundds like a caliper strip down grease re assembly is needed, you'll get good at it after the 3rd time.

Yes, I think that might be the answer, unfortunately.

I forced the pistons back using a wedge between the rear of pads and the pistons. Very crude and ugly but I didn't have the means to unseize the pins at my disposal. This caliper works fine, however...

Any idea where to pick up rear brake pins from.

Thanks

J

On the subject of the rear pins, i got the std ones out, wnet to the local car accessory shop, purchased some longer items, and drilled the blind hole, making them easy to remove in the log run.

Yes, I've read your 'How To' on that which will definitely come in handy! Where did you get the pins from? Are they easy to come by?

Cheers

Just my local car accessory shop. Just took the old pins, ask for some longer with the same diameter. Make sure that the r-clip hole is the same distance from the head.

Can anyone confirm whether I need to put sealing washers on either side of all banjo bolts and one in between them on the double-banjo bolts?

Thanks,

Jason

Yes,and new one's too. I've re-used 'em before and had leaks, they are pennies to buy and not worth scrimping on IMHO. If yer fitting new lines they should have come with all the new washers needed.

OK.
Yes, my HEL lines have washers supplied. I've never used banjo bolts before so just wanted to check.

Many thanks

J
