Air filter

Hi does anybody know what the spongy thing under the air filter is in the k3, its tucked in one side of the air box.
Thanks

Don't know, but mine smells of petrol.

yep, its a filter for the breather pipes that, at a guess, come out of the engine to balance the crankcase pressure.

I was also thinking of getting a k&n filter, do they make any differance

It will make your service bill cheaper as it is washable rather than a consumable

what about performance wise

Alka...

The K&N really improves the top end acceleration - but also increases the amount of noise from the front of the bike. I would challenge you not to notice it. Overall it generally improves responsiveness.

As Joe says, it's a washable rather than a consumeable filter - it costs roughly twice what a standard filter would, so it doesn't take too long to pay for itself.

Cheers Bill, I think I'm going to get one

IN the K4 manual it says the filter can just be blown clean with an airline and not replaced - is this different for the previous models or is the filter so shoddy that it will probably need replacing at the service and not withstand a good cleaning??

it all depends on how dirty your filter is. if you do lots of city work probably replace the filter if its all out in the sticks then a clean would do. tbh it all depends on the state of the filter when it comes out
