Just tasted the tarmac
came round a corner at lunchtime, front wheel dipped into a ****ing pothole and welcome to my first highside :( :( slid across the road still clutching the handlebars and got nicely wedged into the curb.
no bones broken but a tasty rash up the side of my stomach where my jacket rode up, and sliding along went through my jacket and caused a bit of a rash on my arm. just below where the armour is... typical!!! amazingly didn't crack the fairing! lost the front indicator and the peg on the gear lever snapped off...... oh yeah, and my missus was driving 100yrds behind me! much screaming and tears..... funny thing was I was just thinking about wearing jeans as was only popping round the corner and it's hot out....glad I made myself put the full gear on :? So, anybody about this afternoon who's got a spare indicator and footpeg in the London area? course not! bet you're all out on your bikes in the sunshine  |
Glad to hear your kit did it's job and you're only missing a few bits of plastic and not body parts.
Note to self: Get in a huge supply of levers and pegs - sell at profit for own retirement fund. |
Never good to use urself as a crash bung!
But glad ur all ok, cept minor scrapes!! has she stopped giving u sympathy yet and are u getting "told u u shouldnt have boutht that bike, blah blah... ull kill urself blah blah" Hope she fixes up ok and u mend quick! Alex |
Glad youre OK.
How big was the pothole? There are legal limits on the sizes before the local council is held accountable. If it hadnt been as deep as it is you may not have come off. its your local council who are supposed to fill these things. have a look at the BMF website as they have a section on bad roads/ reporting them etc. I can only imagine what state my g/f would have been in if she were close behind me. Hope she realises it was one of those things that can happen to anyone and not entirely due to your riding skills. |
cheers chaps, ironically, the missus was contemplating doing her CBT and giving biking a go, this is now NOT on her agenda. She says the sight of me flying off the side has put her off for life....

one more thing! a quick rant about the AA...
as I had snapped the gear lever off and couldnt ride the bike, I phoned them, i have full cover for everything home start, relay etc. As the bike had been involved in an "accident" i.e it had fallen over. They wouldn't pick it up under my cover. They wanted to charge me £140!!!!! to take it home, a distance of 1/2 mile. so rode home in 1st gear :D |
