How much for my bike? & What to buy next?
 

Hi Folks,
Thinking about selling my SV & buying something new along the "sports/tourer" line.

So, how much do think I can expect to get back on my unfaired K3? How much difference between selling private and a trade in?

8k miles on the clock.
Datatool system 3 alarm.
Road legal CCC exhaust.
Colour coded bellypan, hugger, and radiator cowls.
FSH.

So what next?

Honda VFR 800...( Would need to be second hand to afford this).
Kawasaki ZZR600...(some good deals on this bike. Brand new, 5k OTR).
Suzuki GSX750F...(Cheap as chips, but a not heard much about this bike).

Any thoughts? Is it worth paying the extra insurance and going for the second hand Honda, or would any of the bikes be fine for an amateur like me!

go for the vfr, they've a very good reputation, even saw one on a track day last year - they ain't slow.

Don't know about values for your bike, but I wouldn't bother with any of those you've suggested.

Go for a Fazer 1000. Brand new about £5800 - £6000, or a decent used one from £4000.

Its top of my next bike list.

I don't know about the others, but don't get the GSXF, after the SV you'll be disappointed with it in almost everyway.

Between the Kwakka and the Honda, for me it'd pretty much be down to the engine. Do you want to go for an IL or stick with a V?

Are you thinking of changing because you want to put more miles on with a bit of touring - in which case comfort is a biggy. Test ride both on the road - then take a pillion slowly round a car park. Gives you a fair idea of what it could be like one up but fully loaded.

Personally I'd go for the VFR. But that's mainly for the reason that if I was do a bit of long-distance riding I'd prefer the flexibility and braking of a V engine - less work, and your brake pads last longer! :wink:

I would be put off the Fazer thou, the stories I have read about depreciation frighten me :?

Save up, cut the kids pocket money down and forget the wifes next birthday, then go and buy a Triumph Sprint ST :P

And to help you with the deposit I will buy your CCC can if it will fit a k2

The Fazer thou's only depreciated so badly because the new cost's been slashed- shouldn't be such a problem now as the price is already rock bottom- doubt it'll go any further.

(basically, new bikes were cut so much that they were cheaper than a used bike would be if it had gone along typical depreciation lines)

So if you're buying now you actually get the advantage of the bargain basement pricing, rather than having to worry about depreciation.

I'd rather buy a thundercat than a ZZR600, but gotta agree with the fzer thou idea. RiDE voted it top bike and it scores very highly in all the tests and reader polls.
The GSXF750 is pretty dull but a good work horse. Finish is if anything worse than a SV.
The VFR800 is a H*nda, it'll do what you need but I prefered the 750 version without the linked brakes. ABS is btter than linked IMHO.

If you like a twin, then get an Aprilia Falco! Had mine 6 weeks now after 4 years on an SV. It's a natural progression, rode a CBR600RR (gave me a sore bum after only 15 miles) :shock: , rode a VFR800 (comfy, fast but so boring) :? , tried the SV1000 (lots of power but...........) :( and then tried a Falco, loads of character, loads of power and loads of fun trying to keep the front wheel on the deck. :lol:
As for the value of your bike, prepare to be disappointed. The value of SV's have plummeted, my SK3 similar spec but fully faired was valued at only £2400 :twisted: part-ex against a year old CBR600RR. I eventually sold private at £3100.

I've heard good things about the Fazer, i've tried to talk myself in to looking more closely at them, but I just don't like the look of bike at all. ( No offense to any Fazer owners out there!)

I'm looking for something that can rack up the miles in relative comfort, and would prefer a full fairing after 2 years on a naked!

What about a SV1000....don't know why I didn't consider this before. Guess i'm in the right place to ask about it though!! Seen Cupar are selling them with lower fairings for £5.5k.

Any more thoughts?
