Oh dear, Toad's in a hole....

Well in a French Hospital actually. :( :(

On the way to Le Mans on Saturday in terrible conditions (lot's of heavy rain) Si dumped his bike. Coming down hill into a fairly inocuous left hander he went up onto the grass verge and managed to hit the only roadsign in miles and he's ended up breaking his left leg above the knee.

Leigh and I didn't make it to Le Mans, we stayed behind to make sure his bike got picked up and to find out which hospital they took hime too. He's in fairly good spirits considering what he's been through and we contacted his wife to let her know what happened, and she has spoken to him at the hospital.

We went to see him yesterday at the hospital in L'Aigle. He's got bits of plate and a number of screws in his leg, it will probably be at least a week before they repatriat him, but I contacted his travel insurance company and the wheels are in motion.

I was back marking he group and watched it all happen, which keeps running through my mind. As soon as I got to him he said "Is my new camera OK?" French emergency services were fantastic, got there within 10 minutes (we were about 5 miles from Gace, in the middle of no where really) and the Gendarmes were also friendly and not the over the top hard types we are sometimes lead to believe they are.

I would guess that the bike won't be comimg home... It's a bit of mess, forks and bars bent, engine casing cracked; the oil filter got ripped out, footpegs gone, front down pipe is as flat as a pancake and I think the frame is scuffed. Carole nash say that if it's a right off they won't bother bringing it home.

I'll be calling his wife later and I'll post any updates on here.

I hate it when they jump out in front of you. Glad he's in good spirits - thats the first step to a good recovery.

Sorry to hear the news. :( Sounds like he is in good spirits and was more concerned about his camera, but it just could have been the shock of the crash.

I remember I tried to pick up my bike before I realised that I had broken my arm.

All the best.
