Insurance B*stards

I am so annoyed.

I’ve been getting insurance quotes for my car for when its back on the road and I’ve come up with £211.05 TPFT, protected ncb and business use for £3K miles, which I'm quite happy with.

Due the motorbike accident I recently had I now have to declare I’ve had a claim. However, I didn’t claim on my policy, all my insurance company did was appoint a solicitor on my behalf and got them to sort it out which they did. Plus the fact that I wasn’t anywhere near the motorbike when she reversed into it causing £1100 worth of damage!

So I didn’t pay my excess and no engineer visits were done so the insurance company were not out of pocket at any time whatsoever and they actually did f-all anyway.

Now the same insurance quote telling them the situation has put the premium up to £264.11.

Does anybody know about such things because this just sounds completely wrong and unfair to me?

The insurance ombudsman (FSA) and trading standards can't help me so where do I get advice??

This sounds wrong to me.If you declare a non fault accident which resulted in no claim on your insurance, but was settled by the other parties insurance there should be no loading of your premium.Get back to them and make sure they have fully understood this and ask them to justify the increase.

Best thing to have done would be to have not told them the situation

Wanna swap places?

I would love to be able to pay 264 quid on my insurance..

I have just spoken to the employee assistance programme that my company runs who have been very helpful and basically they said the insurance companies look at the risk, even if it was a non-fault accident, I was still involved so they assess my qualities based on that. He said there is no set amount somebody would be charged, so I’ll just need to shop around and hopefully find somebody who won’t hold it against me or not as much as £50 anyway!

Apparently the reasoning behind it goes something like "you have had an accident and therefore statistically, you are more likely to have another accident even if the first accident was not your fault"

Another aspect that strikes me as unfair is that while they are quite happy to count your accident record in your car against you when quoting for insurance for your bike, they are less willing to allow your eight years of accident free motoring in a car to weight the bike quote in your favour!

+ your insurance didn't pay out but someones insurance did and that knocks on the whole despicable industry, modern day vampires

- at least you got £1100 worth of repairs - when a motability driver reversed into my car she only did 140 quids worth of damage, she refused to settle cash as motability insurance doesn't penalise her for a claim, I have three insurance policies who each hit me for 50 quid - DO THE MATHS  - if I knew before I'd had the repairs done what was coming I'd have paid for the repair myself - the insurance companies keep this quiet till it happens to you.

couldn't leave the car unrepaired it was only a month old!

That's all well and good until (God forbid) you need to make a claim and your name shows up on the central claim database and you get refused payment due to non-disclosure of material facts.

The other option is to go back to the original third parties insurance and demand compensation for your increased premium.Im still amazed that they can bump your premium up if you didnt claim on your policy when someone hit your parked vehicle.

here's another insurance beaut for you - I have 2 car policies cos my wife has never had insurance - we got quotes for her own insurance when she baught a KA and they all wanted around £1500-£2000, it costs me £200 fully comp NCP - I said to one insurer (that only insures women ) how would my wife get on if anything happened to me "OH NO PROBLEM SIR AS SOON AS SHE DIVORCES YOU WE'LL GIVE HER YOUR 9+ YEARS NO CLAIMS"
