Can i claim?
About 5 months ago i was knocked off my scooter (yes i had a scooter  ) I was riding along a straight, 30mph limit road when a car travelling in the oposite direction decides to take a turning and go through me as he did so
As i looked up, when i finaly stopped sliding down the road, i saw the car leaving the scene in a bit of a rush  There was a witness to the incident but he couldnt get the numberplate of the car as he really didnt hang around. The witness imediatly called the police and they were there in no time closely followed by an ambulance. I was questioned by an officer but all i could tell him was that it was a silver hatchback (not much use). While being checked over in the ambulance the police officer popped his head in, told me to produce my documents (didnt actually give me a producer note thingy) then left, and to this day i have heard nothing from the police what so ever :x not even a victim of crime leaflet posted to me :x I was hurting all over, missed time from work and i was a few grand out of pocket (money i really couldnt/cant afford to lose) due to only being TFT and my bike being written off  Ok that was my rant and feeling sorry for myself over. Feel better now :D Now my question, can i claim any compensation from anywhere? Ive heard of an goverment fund for people that are hit by uninsured drivers but will they be able to help me? Thanks Dan |
You can try here:
https://www.cica.gov.uk However it's for victims of violent crime and yours would appear to be accidental. Still if you don't ask, you don't get. . |

Welshwop I think its the motor insurance bureau that deal with hit and runs and non-insured drivers. not 100% on that one but think someone mentioned it somewhere before. |
Thanks both :D

Be warned it could take a while :( |
One of my mates was knocked off his RVF and it was a hit and run, and he's getting about 20 grand from some insurance place, takes ages to come through though. He broke his arm and missed about 2 months of work.

So you should be able to claim for injuries but for the property i.e. the scooter, I don't think they'll pay up but I'm hoping I'm wrong for WelshWop's sake. |
