has anyone ridden both the sv650 and sv1000 new shapes
 

hi guys i was thinking about changing to a thou and was wondering if anyone has ridden both of them.

i have heard that the sv1000 is a little slower handeling than the 650

has anyone changed and was it worth it?

ultimatley it is the extra power and torque that the 1000 has that i am after i am very happy with everything else that the sv650 does

also which bit are the same, to me it looks like the seat,rear cowl, fuel tank, front faring are all the same, i was wondering this because of taking bits of my 650

I've got a curvy 650 naked and I've tried (Sid Squid's) SV1000 naked. Two entirely different bikes. Is the SV thou better? Oh you bet. It's not just the extra torque, it's the brakes and above all else the suspension that make it handle as though it's on rails. Whereas my 650 is skittish going round corners the SV thou is just a joy to ride and will most likely be my next bike. Try one, you'll be smitten.

just out of interest . . . dont suppose you know of the insruance leap between a 650 and a 1000 ?

Depending on age, NCB etc, pretty big jump :lol: .

the thou in naked or S is group 15, the 650 naked is 9 and the S is 10.
It can be quite a leap, but with 2 years NCB I've managed to find FC with business use on a K5 thou for under £1k with a reasonable excess.

hi have tried to find insurance i'm 22 with 2 years ncb and have had a quote from ramdale for less than £700 ish, tftp with comuting and legal so it twice my 650 so i might have to wait till next year but its sounding more tempting by the minute

on autotrader i have seen mint low millage k3 models for about 4k, does this sound about right

I personally would prefer FC. I can get tpft down to well under £700. My renewl will be less than £500 FC on my 650.

£4k sounds about right for a K3/4 prereg or low mileage.

Ive not ridden a new fangled 650, but I rode the SV1000S and stand by what Jonboy said, better suspension, brakes, and power. I cannot fault the slower if any steering. I was not so brave on the thou, because I had just signed a £1000 disclaimer if I dropped it. :shock:

Had a curvy 650s (with Renegade cans & airbox) for four years, and got a SV1000S just over a year ago.

As others have said, the thou does everything the 650 does - just faster, smoother, easier.

Acceleration is amazing, top end is adequate :wink: (over 60 mph in first, about 98mph in second, and 9300 rpm in 6th gear = 150 indicated mph (alledgedly) :twisted: :shock: ) and whilst it is not quite as 'chuckable' as the 650, to me it feels more planted in the corners (better suspension and a bit more weight).

Insurance is pretty good - best quote I had this year was £250 fully comp (aged 35, 4 years ncb, garaged).

if you can afford it, then do it!

Not so If you do get the SV1K just drop the forks 5 to 6mm more through the tripple clamps and you will have a GSXR curve carving bike.
