Cameras in Kent

Following my recent research into the Kent Safety Camera Partnership, I thought I'd post a link to their website here.

They're obviously extremely well organised, but refreshingly open about it as well. They detail all the sites where permanent cameras are, and show where their mobile units will be over the coming weeks.

All calibration certificates are published too. There seems to be no room to squirm with these people, but respect to their honesty and openness about it!

I think they are required by law to provide such information. That said, I guess they don't HAVE to make it available on the web.

I'm a firm believer that if cameras are really there for everybodies safety that they should be marked 100 metres before you get to them. You won't make as much revenue but you will keep the speed down in the areas where it matters, thus making it safer. Which is the whole idea isn't it, or did I miss something ?

They're pretty good, Kent has a fairly low number of cameras, and where they do have them, especially in Medway, they seem quite keen to publicise where they are and why they're putting them there. For instance they've just put 6 in, but they're still not active, almost 2 months after they started putting them up, as if they want to make sure everyone is well aware of them and doesn't get caught out. Maybe they're just very disorganised :D but part of the press was saying how they're going to be activated soon, etc.

I still think they're misguided and not as useful as they think - several of the cams are near crosses where people have been run down, yet that was due to peds/vehicles jumping a red light, not speeding  but if they're going to put them up, giving everyone a fair chance by letting them know where they are is cool. Never had any hassle from Kent police when doing a good 10mph over the posted limit, either.
