My rideout 14 and 15 July. (LONG and Not Dial-up friendly!)
Hi,
We decided to go for a rideout to the Lakes and stay over at a B&B. The route taken was the basically the rideout route we did last week with some slight alterations - but for those who didn't come here it is! Manchester -> M6 M6 -> M65 (Barrowford, Burnley) Barrowdord -> Gisburn Gisburn -> Long Preston and the A65 A65 -> Devil's Bridge Devil's Briidge -> Windermere Windermere -> Dockray via the Kirkstone Pass Dockray -> Keswick Total distance about 130 miles. Beautiful mainly NSL Twistys, particularly the Barrowford to Long Preston, and the Windermere to Dockray stretches. We'd pre-booked a B&B called the Woodside (a biker friendly B&B) - we made a mistake and turned into a place called Woodlands about 100 yards before. Got off the bike, the guy was there to greet us so we presumed we'd got the right place. Got settled into the smallest room I've ever been in (literally just a bit bigger than a double bed) and then received a phone call from Woodside asking were we were. Now having realised our mistake we speak to the proprietors and explain the situation. We'd been there about 45 minutes -> 1 hour in total and they made us pay for the room :( :( Initially we didn't have any more then £20 cash on which we offered to him - after "We want more than that" in a sarcastic tone and the fact he wouldn't take Amex or any card, I had to ride in the **** rain to Keswick and get the cash. Looking back on it we shouldn't have said anything and just gone, but I really didn't think we'd be charged. Word of warning there, don't ever stay at the Woodlands B&B, located on the A66 just outside of Keswick. We finally got to the Woodside which was lovely. The people there were very friendly (and bikers). We parked the bike up and got a lift down into Keswick for a nice Indian at the Lakeland Spice Hut. Taxi back and straight to bed! Up early in morning for a good breakfast - then off down the A591 to Windermere for a few hours look round and some shopping, before we rode back down the A66 to the M6 for a nice 100 mile blast back home. By now (after a similar ride last week) the bike was looking grotty. So a full elbow grease clean with Muc Off, chain and sprocket cleaned and greased back up to new! All joints greased with 3 in 1, bike polished, chamoised, then rolled back into her home in the garage. All in all a great ride and I would recommend it to anyone!
