Chain Maintenance

Hi as you can see im new to the forum although i have been reading alot posts as a guest.
I have a K5 and want to know how often i should clean/oil the chain???

You should l00b your chain at least once a week.

Buy a scottoiler, it l00bs the chain for you and it cleans it at the same time, not to mention that it extends the life of your chain by at least 2 times. Cost = £60

If i recall the book says every 600 miles in dry weather, more often in wet. I generally clean mine with WD40 and lube every, or every other week (doing around 100 miles a week max).

You really can't lube it enough and Deejay's suggestion of a Scotoiler is spot on if you wish to greatly extend the life of your chain and sprockets.

Depends on the conditions you're riding in and how long your journeys are. When I don't have an oiler I'll lube my chain after every run and when the chain's warm. But a Scotolier is the best option, it's easy, reliable and pays for itself!

I think i will be making a trip to my local dealer tomorow and find out a little more about the scotoiler

Thankyou
