4 Chavs in a clio... to sue or not...

Hi folks, im beginning to think that im cursed!

Driving home last night i noticed a blue clio behind be driving erratically. As they pulled alongside me on the duel carriageway, i spotted 4 chavs in this car, all gesturing wildly - middle fingre, w@nker signs etc. They overtook me and started slowing down, speeding up etc. I dropped back so they slowed right down again. I overtook them and drove off. They were right upbehind me on the main road into york from Hull, flashing their headlights etc.

As i approached a red light, i realised id have to stop with these d1cks behind/next to me... so i slowed down, did really good observations, and with nothing coming, proceeded to jump the red light... low and behold, they jumped it too. I turned into a side street where no one ever goes... they followed me. So for the next half hour i drove around town, trying to lose them, they followed me all the time. As i crossed a cross road, heading towards the rail station, there is taxi rank on the left hand side, with a cab manovering near the road, he looked like hes about to pull out, so i slowed down - not an emergency stop, but certainly very quickly. Next think i know, theres a screech of breaks, and the ****ers drive straight into the back of me at about 40mph. BUGGER!!

I get out, to swap details, as i do so, all 4 of them get out of their car, and start giving it mouth and making gestures for a fight. Im not in the mood, so i get back in my car and drive off. As i do so, i immediately get on the mobile, and put in a 999 call, informing the police that ive just been involved in an RTA, but for reasons of personal safety ive left the scene without speaknig to the 3rd party. I inform the police im going straight down to fulford police station - the operator on the phone says ive done the right thing.

I get to the police station, and make myself known at the front desk. The police spend 30 mins looking into it, studying cctv footage etc, and they confirm that the car behind was tailgating, that i did the right thing in stopping for the cab, and that i am completely not to blame for any aspect of the collision. They advise that i should just let their insurance deal with it. (The police checked, and they DO have insurance).

Their car is totalled apparently, according to the police, it had to be recovered, radiator all smashed in, wing buckled etc. My car appears alright, bumper is smashed, the boot wont open, so that night be a twisted chassis... have to wait and see.

So, im now at work, sorting everything out... and do you know, my back is hurting a little bit.... whats the proceedure for claiming whiplash/injuries? 8)

As much as I hate the compensation culture, if you're injured, you're injured. Go to your doctor then go from there.

Edit: Just a point. An injury claim shouldn't be for revenge, it's not about whether they deserve to be sued, it's to recover any losses caused by the accident.

Why didnt you just leave it there and stop or turn off?? Possible that jumping the light made them think they could show off more? Neither of things i'd have done.

Otherwise not your fault. Do your best with the solicitors.

Because i was on my way home, and the only other way to my house is to head out of town, jump onto the A64 then spend 20 mins circumnavigating York to get back to the other side, and then head back into the city again. Besides, i didnt fancy my chances with 4 "townies" in the middle of town at 1130 at night. I didnt want to stop for my own safety, the same reason i left the scene.

I was about to say the same, but then when you've got a car full of ********s following you who've no regard for their own safety let alone yours, you probably won't be thinking straight.

Glad it didn't result in you getting hurt GYKD, hope they get it in the neck.

The whole point of jumping the red was to avoid stopping I think. If you don't know what a group of 4 chavs are going to do, they were certainly acting aggressively, why give them the opportunity to do anything?

It's THEIR actions that got them where they are. I call it poetic justice.

As time wasnt mentioned in the original post I would have thought nothing to stopping at the lights at say 6 or 7pm and just ignoring them.

But as described they overtook him etc. Simply pulling over into a carpark or something (whilst staying in the car, locked) possibly could have ended it was my point. Instead they were overtaken where they proceeded to tailgate. Overtaking a chav is surely like throwing down the gauntlet??

But not knowing the route etc i couldnt comment any more than on what i would have done in that situation.

I would have gone through the red light if things had got that far.

I think you should try and sue the little blighter!

His insurance premium is going to be really high, especially if your car is in a real bad way. i.e. chasis damaged.

Some people really shouldn't be on the road, I would like to know if the cops are going to persue "Driving without due care and attention" or "Dangerous Driving".

A nice ban would be good aswell
