Where to measure tread depth?
Question is WHERE do I look to find my min 2mm?
Tyre is a Metzler Z6 with about 8K on it. If I ask a garage, they will take advantage of my ignorance and say "change it" I have ringed where I think I should be looking, but need confirmation. Apologies in advance for the size, not sure how to reduce it  http://www.thebikereview.com/iup/get8.asp?ID=1111 |
There are wear markers across the tyre, but when it starts squaring off, is time to change the tyre. It generally wears more in he centre obviously.

Yep, I guessed so. I was just hoping I would get somewhere near Rictus's 15k

It's 1mm on a bike ;).
"You must have a minimum pattern depth of 1.0mm around the full circumference of the tyre for the central 3/4 of its width and the remainder of the original pattern must be visible." . |

In the wet? I get scared when I get into double figures on the speedo!

Thats got plenty left in it, when it looks like this its time to replace it:
http://www.keypoint.com.au/~fennell-dsl/back.jpg That was a fortnight before i replaced it, lets say it was interesting in the wet! |
Tyre tread is 1mm across 75% of tyre but 2mm is probably a wise choice. I got 7k out of my Z6 but I suppose with me its like carrying a pillion all the time :P
I think Rictus got 15k, but he uses all the tyre not just the middle :D |
