Rear brake pedal snaped

hi all, wondering if im just a tad to heavy footed or if this is ment to happen!!!

i was riding the other day and some **** pulled out infront of me so as you do i pulled/pushed both brakes. only to find my foot on the tarmac. i did not hit the car and stoped in time but had to get off my bike to find the rest of my pedel. after a while i found it under a parked car but the break seemed to be 100% clean and there is a crevis like there was air in the pedal when it was put in the mold. has anyone else had this problem or is this just me. what should i do as i cant ride my bike and no dealers are open till tomorrow as its bank holiday.

i just dont feel safe riding the bike anymore. what happens if its the frame next

ps the bike is a K5 sv650s about 30 days old

Cripes!

I'm glad you are ok.

Unfortunatly there is nothing you can do today, so get onto your dealer tommorrow.

I've been kicking around this site for a few months and not heard of the brake lever going. Only the issue about the gear lever, but it doesn't snap off

This is not a fantastic surprise on a cast component really. In almost all cases, the part will not snap under heavy load BUT, as you said, the component seemed to have an air pocket in it. Not exactly desireable, but a very real possibility with mass produced castings.

Forged components or those machined from solid metal ("billet" parts) are far superior but at a cost. Manufacturers have to strike a balance and mostly castings are fine.

Take it back to your dealer and politely demand a replacement under warranty.

Looks like the 'cheap' parts are getting cheaper  :(

The apparent air bubble would appear to be the cause of your problem.

I crashed my K5 about a week after having it (lost front end on some gravel at about 40-50mph), the bike went down on its right side and some how managed to bend the brake pedal so it ponted backwards!! The bike hit the road bounced back almost upright and rode itself into a hedge  . I can't work out how it stood back upright, maybe I had an angel riding pillion that day????

The damage to the bike was so minor thanks to the nice soft hedgerow that I stuck a steel pipe over the end of the pedal and bent it back to 'almost' its original shape so I could continue using the bike until my replacement parts arrived.

these parts dont bend very sucsesfully, i came off my mates vespa and did the same to that horrible kick starter at the rear! when i bent that back it snapped.< improvement if you ask me

might be a good place to ask my question, how do you replace a rear brake leaver on a k4 sv650s?
