Ok to change the sprocket at the 1st service?
Hi,
I am just coming up to the 1st service and looking for a few cheap upgrades/modifications. I quite fancy changing the sprockets... do you think I could get away with just a sprocket swap, without changing the chain (will only have done 600 odd miles). I am a bit on the heavy side, so I thought I would give the bike a fighting chance:) SV650S K5. R&G Sliders. |

The 'purists' will tell you that whenever you change sprockets you should change the chain as well - however, if you take a good look at it to make sure it's not hooked (unlikely after so few miles unless your wheelie maniac !!) then you should be ok :D |
Thanks for the reply:)
Just thought i would change the number of teeth, give the bike a bit more zip on the cheap:)

Just change the rear as it's only 600 miles, an extra two teeth will be about right, and will give a little extra zip and also have the front wheel off the ground a fair bit when pulling away in first ;). There'll also be a few more vibes and you'll be forever trying to change up into seventh but it's perhaps the best and certainly the cheapest "performance" mod going and won't affect your insurance.
I've done it and glad I did. . |
