Spark Plug Changing - Help Please
 

mmmm... so I've had my SV650s now for about three months and now for the second time I think the sparks are wet and need changing... So Im wanna do it myself cos if it keeps happening I dont wanna pay 35 squid to sm1 to come and pick it up the whole time... Can someone tell me if this is a difficult task>? I have a haynes manual but to be honest it jumps from page to page and I cant really see whats involved....Any help greatly appreciated.

Plug changing is not difficult, the front (which is your problem) is a bit more tricky but not that bad.

Don't know which model you have, but on an original proper curvy model you need to undo the bolt which holds the bottom of the radiator to the cylinder head, then you can ease the bottom of radiator forwards, use a suitable block to wedge it away from the head, and you can then just get access into the plug. All the hoses can be left connected. It's advisable to remove the horn to avoid it hitting the rad, though I seem to recall some folk say it's not essential (I can't remember :? ).

The plug box-spanner which comes with the toolkit is as good as anything to undo the plug. Just take care not to damage the fins of the radiator, you're working right up against it. A piece of cardboard taped onto the rad can be useful to protect it while you're delving.

Sort out the fender extender, grease etc and the need to do this on a regular basis will disappear. :lol:
