New Bike...God Bless Crash Bungs...and More...(A Few Pics)
 

Been a bit slow in getting this posted! :oops: So it's a couple of different threads rolled in to one.

Picked my new SV up on August the 15th, having bought hugger, belly pan, seat cowl (not shown), and RG Racing crash bungs at the same time, which were fitted for free by George White.

The following Sunday I took a run over to see my parents (near Swindon), and meet up with an old riding mate - all a good excuse for some running in miles. Really enjoyed it. :D Got back home at lunchtime and as my wife was still doing her CBT I went out for a gentle spin with my bro-in-law, Neil. He'd only just pased his DAS a couple of weeks before. Heading into Alton on the B3349 and approach a mini roundabout. See something dark on the ground on the roundabout (it was a hot, bone dry day) and pick a line to avoid it. SPLAT! :shock: :( Suddenly I'm sliding along on my side, and the scraping noise from my bike is making me want to cry. :cry: Neil managed to stop ok. I'm wondering WTF happened. We picked the bike up and went over to have a look. Some f#cker had spilt seeds, and they were like little round ball-bearings. The darker patch I'd avoided, but there were more green ones over a larger area and practically invisible on the road. I went to the nearest house to ask for a broom so that I could sweep the road clean, and they were kind enough to lend me one. Oh, and thank you to the car driver who not only saw it happen, but stopped to see if we needed help.

So, the bike. I was expecting it to be mashed - fairing brokenetc as I'd never had crash bungs before (sold my ZX6R five years ago). The crash bung was slightly bent and very chamfered, but it had done it's job. The other damage was a scrape on the bar end/mirror/front brake, popped but not broken indicator lense, bent rear brake lever, and a scrape on the silencer (which I wasn't too bothered about as I knew I planned to change it). So, GOD BLESS RG Racing! :notworthy:

Back to the good stuff! After reading many threads on here I bought the Hamicad tail tidy. I found it a bit of an @rse to fit, specifically the bolts that are covered by the OEM undertay, but well worth it when done.

You can just about see the crash damage in this pic - I was waiting for the replacement bung and bolt.

I mentioned my wife doing her CBT, well she passed that. :thumbsup: She can't do her DAS until October due to work commitments, so we decided to get her a bike so she can continue to learn. Picked up a very nice three month old, onr lady owner CBR125R from George White. Less than 1200 miles on it and the balance of the two year warranty, etc. Hopefully we'll be selling it in October, but if for some reason she doesn't pass her test [-o< then she can continue riding.

Tell you what, going out riding with her is fantastic. It's so good seeing her do so well. And she's so enthusiastic about it all! :D 8) The fact that I'm bimbling along behind really doesn't matter! :shock: Anyway, she's straight up to the speed limit, so it's not like we've a queue of cars behind. Mind you, that doesn't stop some people. :toss: They see the L plate and MUST get past. ](*,) :toss:

Ummm...I think that might well be enough from me! :oops: If you got this far, give yourself a pat on the back, you deserve it. :wink:

Amazing! I am surprised at the lack of damage to the bike after your spill.
Glad it was a non-injury spill!

Looks MUCH better with the tail tidy, just need to get the seat cowl on & the grab rail off.

The Sv is still one good looking bike...I still prefer the original tail...

Oh do tell where you bought the huggerrrrr and belly pan....looks good AND is practical...what a winning combination. 8)

thats a great thread/story- i enjoyed reading it- and the 2 blue bikes look good together...

I must get some R&G's meself- keep saying I will but cant justify the £70.!! maybe i cud if i come off!! however- I am fully comp insurance! mind u the 70 quid would cover my excess. - wonde rif they would pay for them as it could save them money !!

Yes, the R&G bungs are brilliant. I've slid once (hadn't learned how to corner properly) and dropped twice (once in fog halfway down the Pyranees after not leaving in gear, and once trying to do tricks on gravel). The R&G has saved everything except a couple of minor scratches and a gear selector. WELL WORTH THE £70.

I reckon in 2 proper crashes with the R&Gs on, plus one low-speed one, one sidestand incident, and one being-knocked-over-while-parked, my R&Gs have probably saved me more than the value of the whole bike... Sliding it from 70 and only breaking the front brake lever does account for a lot of that though :)

r & g are awesome and i will fit them to any bike that i own in the future, i had to low speed but potentaily expesive offs and they only damage to the side of the bike was the exhaust- front was a mess though perhaps r & g can think of a solution to that as well!!
