Ignition retarding
I have heard that the 05 sv 650 is restricted in the first 4 gears and that there is a black box that can overide this. Has anyone tried one or it is just a way to get to get you to spend cash?

A lot of people on here have tried it and it does seem to make a slight difference on the K3+ bikes.
It's not really worth buying one of the G-Pack style boxes though, as they're very overpriced, as all they are is a resistor in a plastic box! A while ago, I put together a tutorial on how to make your own for just a couple of quid! Looke here and scroll down to the "How to do the TRE mod on an SK3 and above SV" section. HTH |
The EFI 650s are have the ignition curve retartded slightly is 2nd & 3rd gear. Yes this can be over-ridden and is quite a simple process. You can purchase 'plug'n'play' units to correct this but don't pay anything more than say 30 pounds. Anyone asking more is really ripping you off.

Though some people say that that messes with the fuel mapping. No idea if that's true or not.

I would still do the mod though - you can always remove it and it did seem to improve things a little. |
OK thaks for that correction, I was still under the impression that the EFI 650s were only 2nd & 3rd.
The 'problem' that some encounter with some ways the TRE mod is done is that it messes with your fast idle circuit etc. There is a bloke on SVdownunder.com that has made up a unit that gets around this problem. I believe that the gear position sensor is used and the signal changed for the ignition section but it doesn't affect the other functions. Not sure how he's exactly done it but there has been nothing but rave reviews. |

Followed the link given and found the TRE that doesn't cut the fast idle. The picture on there site of the black box is identical to the one for sale on e bay.
