Bike to Bike Intercom....?
 

My trip to france next year is looking more and more likley to be a goer,

Now i would quite like a bike to bike intercom,

nothing to expensive cause i know you can go silly on them, and i dont need to be able to speak to my dad from half way around the world!

So if you have one/ have used one, could you please tell me make etc and give me ur comments too?

Use a white board!! Autocom

Autocom's were on offer at half price, not sure if they still are.

I got an Active-7 rider & pillion kit for just over £100. You need to get a radio for bike to bike stuff though, allow another £50.

I too have the Autocom active 7. I though paid full price for mine :cry: What you can save now should be enough to buy the radio needed for bike to bike.

I think it's a good intercom system. The VOX works well allowing for music to be plugged in. When you talk the music is cut by half. There is also an option to plug a mobile phone in.

Or you can turn the VOX off completely. The music volume is dictated by the volume of the music player and not the intercom.

Yep same here, autocom, you can find some cheap on EBAY.

just bought 1 Kenwood radio for it for £60 which is more than I expect to pay, but still cheaper than the UK price,

you can also get a 12v supply for it for fitting it to the bike.

Bought the Autocom Pro7 Sport Kit for £93 just two weeks ago from a company in Jersey, if anyone is interested I can post their details.

Thought £93 for the top Autocom brand new was pretty cheap.

Another vote for Autocom - great bit of kit

I've got an autocom, works fine!

However...

On a four day trip we actually got slightly annoyed with each other. It's nice when you are cruising, but if you talk all the time, there's nothing to say to each other when you stop. Basically, if you jabber on and on, it can get a bit too much.

If you do get set up, make sure you and your mates go for a spin before you leave to get the levels set up correctly. If the VOX is too high you will have to shout to get it to kick in. If it's too low, it will kick in when you go fast by the wind noise. The system wasn't duplex so we spent London to Portsmouth with me trying to swallow the microphone to stop it broadcasting windnoise into everyone elses helmets. We didn't have enough time to stop to adjust it as we had to catch the ferry. :(

If you get one, make sure you:

mount it somewhere where its easy to adjust.
mark the dials so you know if you are turning them up or down, and which is which.
Fit a switch so you can turn it off easily.
Fit some sort of charger set up so you can power your music player. I used a cigarette lighter socket and charger for my ipod. However, you may get some static if you do this.
Sort out all the wires neatly so your not fiddling with them all the time.
Get the helmet set up right so the mic is in the right place, and the lid is comfy.
Try not to pap on with inane drivel that only distracts your mates.
Get used to the vox setup. It doesn't kick in immediately so you have to say something before you say what you want to say.
