Good to be back ..........

My SV1000 was written off in Dec last year (usual story of a short-sighted car driver at a junction) and I replaced it with a ZX6-R. Magic bike (did 15k on it in 6 months) but it was costing a fortune in tyres, etc. Then 2 pals had accidents that weren't their fault (one was lucky to survive, the other didn't make it) so, after considering chucking it altogether, I decided it was time to get something less mental ...........

This time it's blue naked 650K5 which, although it's well down on both the 1000 and ZX in terms of power, is much, much more fun than either 90% of the time. Already got a shopping list (all the normal stuff) -

Hamicad Tail Tidy (the original is too huge)
Smaller No. Plate (the original is too wide)
End Can (the original is too quiet)
Mini Indicators (the originals are too bulbous)
Hugger (the original is too non-existent !!!!)

It's a bit ironic that I got it because the ZX was costing too much then immediately put together a list costing about £250. Just hope the wife understands that no-one runs a totally standard SV.

Or do they ?

Welcome... to the clan, well one thing for sure is you've got a christmas list already... Oh, you'll end up spending cash on the suspension as well...

Hey Buckstone :)

Surprised you find the Sv to run cheaper. I find it the other way around, the zx6r getting a good 55mpg in this weather (more than the sv did), a huge array of cheap parts on ebay, cheap race scrubbed/touring tyres for £40-50 on ebay. :D

I've done the opposite to you - gone from sv650 to ZX6R. And am loving it too.

Enjoy it mate, fun little bikes they are.

Not surprised you enjoy it, they are superb. Mine was a B1H - last model with a side-mounted can. Main cost was tyres. Only got about 2200 out of a rear which meant I needed a new one every month !!!

Tried a more touring type once but didn't like them at all, and it didn't seem right somehow. Fairly confident the bakelite specials on the SV will last a bit longer ..........

The most fun bike (not necessarily the best though) I've ever had was a Hornet about 5 years ago. Hopefully the SV will be as enjoyable as that was - just not as buzzy !!!

Yup, hornets sure are an absolute hoot to ride. Begging to go quicker and lean more I found.

Have one in my garage too....just sitting there, remembering the good old days when I was insured on her.

Hi there,
I spotted it in the town a while back. Lovely deep blue, goes nicely with the black frame and it's waaaay too shiny. Puts mine to shame.

Don't worry about the upgrading thing, it happens to us all! Just accept it.
Most of all, have fun. 8)

p.s. I must pop over some time, I've just started to drive again.

M.

Welcome back... Now speak to Scooby Dsrew about the merits of the SV, he's being a bit unkind since he got his extra 2 cylinders :)
