Chain

Hi,

Im new to riding and after reading many reviews, decided a SV should be my first bike!

So I brought a sv650 s K4, lovley bit of kit!

Anyway I just want a bit of advice regarding the chain - How do I care for it?? Ive looked at a Scotolier but think im going to look after it myself.

Which products are best?? Etc etc

Any other tips on keeping my Sv looking and running good are welcome.

Cheers

Lee

scot oiler is good but you still have to look after chain as scot oiler only works when the bike is moving.

you will still need to lube and clean chain regularly and check adjustment.

its a great first bike

You've opened a right can of worms here  . Without doubt a chain oiler will give you maximum chain life (typically 30k miles), whereas spray lube will likely only let you see 10-15k. - it's also relatively expensive.

I tried a Lubeman chain oiler for only 100 miles and the amount of fling was simply unnacceptable to me plus the rear disc was covered with a thin film of oil and was therefore not exactly efficient.

So I've decided to try something different; I've started to wipe and then coat the chain with Castrol LM grease, which up to now seems to be doing a fine job but needs as much application as spray lube, which is fine and we'll see how it pans out with regard to chain wear over the next few thousand miles.

Other peeps will tell you I'm bonkers but I knew that a long time ago  .
