Back firing

Got myself a 2000 s SV650 naked from a bike dealers, trouble is when I pull up to junctions etc dropping down gears it pop`s like a good un, I about gave some old dudes an heart attack as I turned a tight corner.

What do you recommend, I have been informed v-twins do a bit of this but surely not like my machine is, can you give some feedback on this all you anointed SV riders.
For one i`m a newly passed rider and haven`t really got much of a clue as to v-twins anyway.Cheers :?

its normal, enjoy, just pops away when slowing down.
Its made louder by having a race exhaust.

JakeRS 29-11-05 01:31 PM

depends if you mean popping like a burble or like *BANG*

cos mine never goes bang unless im running at highish revs for a long period of time like filtering on my way to work, otherwise it only burbles lol

Even with a straight through race can mine never banged unless i seriously overfueled it.

A low gurgling was present though :)

Popping and banging in exhaust is usually down to unburnt fuel finding oxygen in the exhaust.
As far as I know that means you have a leak somewhere in the downpipes up to the can.
Check all the joints from cyl head onwards.

Not really enough info to say. Has it got the standard end can/exhaust? Standard air filter? Has it ever been rejetted? Stock, it shouldn't realy make much noise at all :)

My SV bangs and pretty loud to, does a bit of popping but that`s not my concern.
It`s got everything standard but has a scott oiler put onto it and different tyres, not your usual Metz.
Never been rejetted as far as I know.
Warmed it up yesterday and it sounded like a bomb going off, all the dogs in the area were barking there heads off, plus it crapped me up a bit as it was in my garage.
What do you reckon then? Cheers. :?
