3500rpm tickover??????
 

While out riding earlier, I stopped and found bike was ticking over at 3500rpm, the throttle grip didn't feel sloppy at all as i suspect it would if the throttle cable had stuck. No warning light on either. Turned ignition off then back on and it was still same, if i blipped the throttle revs would go up then back down to 3500? turned bike off again and turned throttle with bike off and then restarted and it was all ok with tickover back to normal? :?

Anyone got any idea what could have caused this? I'm suspectng the cable (aren't there two??) but i'm really not sure as the bike is only 6 months old. :(

It sounds like the bike is running the engine high because it thinks its cold.

Like when you start the bike in the morning it revs to 3500 then slowly donw again after a while.

I guess theres some sort of temperature sensor for this? Any one know where its located on the bike?

think you need to adjust your idle screw

6 months old?, back to the stealership with it, let them mess about with it under warranty.

take it to the dealer and get them to sort it

Indeed they do, but I have no doubt that's not the problem as before and after my little tickover incident the idle was fine.

As for the take it to the dealer option, i'm not sure, having worked in engineering since i left school i know for a fact that there's nowt worse than someone giving you something that: 'wasn't working right the other day but it's fine now, just wondered if you could sort it out' :roll:

I was hoping that someone may have had a similar problem and could shed some light on the matter?

It is possable that one of the temp sensors is giving incorect readings. But then it would not go back to normal when you just turned the bike on & off again.

You need the dealer check it out. If its still under warranty, take it back.

Can you simulate the problem without going for a rideout, just reving the engine on stand. If so take it to the dealers and make it happen.
