New Bike aware adverts campaign

I saw a horrific advert on TV last nite about car drivers looking out for bikers.

The advert was alsoon the morning radio, its good to see that the government / DofT are doing something positive for us bikers for once.

I've saw one of those the other night.. not pretty at all but sticks in the mind!

Unfortunately, it's more likely to stick in the minds of bikers and not cage drivers. Although, I'd love to be proved wrong.

Dunno.. my dads a cage driver.

I remember when i first got into bikes i was arguing with him about this very same kind of crash - cos he asked me why i always rode with my lights on...

He was saying that drivers always look properly. I got a call from him the other day, apologising for arguing with me - when i asked what prompted his change on attitude - he said... i saw that "Think!" advert on TV about it.

8) Good to see its affected at least ONE driver. Im sure there'll be more. When i first saw it, i knew what was coming.. but it still made me jump!

So what was the biker doing wrong?

Too far over to the left?
Too fast?
Didn't move across his lane, so against his background he wasn't moving?

i think the old "think" vid blamed bikers, where as this one makes cage driver aware

They have been doing some great work. Mrs Monsta doesnt like it though as it freaks her out each time she see's it...

The other one I like is the Ducati cruising down the country lane and all the warnings and hazards coming up. Although I have only ever seen it late at night.

Theres an interesting article on last months bike mag about lines on approaching junctions.

Should be noted, as in the article, that even when you move to the offside to give space and increase visibility - there is a moment on the approach, where if/when the vehicle emerges and turns towards you.... an impact is unavoidable.

In answer to Thors questions:

The biker could have slowed down in anticipation, moved to the right to increase visibilty on both parties.. however, as per above.. even after taking these precautions.. there is a certain time when a crash WILL happen if the vehicle emerges.

last weeks mcn had a few nast adverts which are getting banned, saying bikers play games of consequences, with pictures of wheelchairs, gravestones etc.

but the think! one is good, should get cagers a bit more aware..

You seem to get better tv coverage down south than we do beyond the border.

I've been looking for these ads since I found out about them ages ago but have only seen both once- both after 11pm.

Maybe I don't watch enough tv. Hopefully the message will get through to those cage drivers who blame us for all accidents
