Warrington played well against Hull...and won.
Showed not only skill but also hard work and drive and graft.
Just a thought.

For someone who lives in the town where the game was invented my knowledge of rugby is quite shameful

Could someone explain...............in a way I will get my head round..........the difference between Union and League, please.

You don't need to be knowledgable on a subject. Just learn the buzz words, agree and nod your head. 8)

Rugby League is a more northern game and proof of northerness.
Wear the cloth cap, eat the meat pie, have a whippet, support Rugby League...sorted. Not many mines left to work down, i'm afraid.

Warrington still played well btw.

League is played by men, Union by overgrown schoolboys.

The origins of league come about from the quite reasonable requirement that you needed to pay players to take their afternoon off work. Clubs that did this were suspended from the RFU and had to form their own "union" which eventually became league. It only took the RFU another 100 years to admit their players were actually professional and legitimise thoier earnings.

I suppose the most obvious difference is the number of player. League has 13 Union 15. Then there is the points you score for

try (5 Union, 4 League)
Penalty goal (3 Unions, 2 League)
Field Goal (3 Union, 1 league)

You then have a count of "tackles" In union the "play" changes only when a mistake, offense or the ball goes out of play, in League it changes after six tackles

You have "line outs" in union when the ball goes out of play

Scrums in union are "ordered" 8 forwards, where in league it is much "friendlier"

Thats a start. The best way to find out the difference is to watch a few games. Get upto wigan and see the best. Forget Saints, and all those on the wrong side of the Pennines.

Tim....I knew the very mention of the glorious Saints would smoke you out!

*sigh* Look, bunch of soft southern public school boys, picking up the ball in case it dirties their ballet pumps.....yeah, yeah.

Rugby League...man's game. Formed in The George Hotel, Huddersfield, just about the time Peter Henry was born.

(Bet the sweaties wouldn't stick it on us at RL.......)
