Sprocket question...
Right, I ordered a final drive kit for my bike, and its arrived.. correct chain, but the sprockets are differently toothed as the original on bike...
the bike should have a 15 tooth sprocket on the front, and a 40 toothed one on the back.. but I have a 14 and 41 respectively in this kit. My quick question is, what effect will this have on the bike ? will I being watching blue sky more than usual, or will I get a higher top speed etc ? cheers |
Brisker acceleration, lower top speed. Depending on where your speedo reads from, it may now read incorrectly.

It reads from the front sprocket! do'h!
Well, looks like more blue sky for me then..... will it under read or over read.. I dont particularly wanna find out as I go past a Police car or speed camera! |
It will say you are going faster than you are. So when it is reading 30 you will actually be doing 25 (not actual figures but you get the idea). You can get a little gizmo called a "speedo healer" which plugs into your bike and corrects the speedo. I seem to remember they are abour £60. I didn't think it was worth it so I stuck with my original gearing.

well, as long as it does it that way.. I dont want it saying 97mph when Im doing 110mph... though it could be useful for blagging rights down the pub to say I was doing 180 on my Kwak earlier  might get odd looks from my mate with the A1P version then though![/code]

Just a note VB, you odometer will also read incorrectly. The miles will rack up quicker. Not massively so, but will be out by the same percentage error on your speedo.

Bugger.. guessed that one.. thinking of getting another front sprocket.. 15 tooth as supposed to be.. keeping the back as is, as I will be attempting to wheelie more in summer ;) though I think carrying pillions ever again is out of the question now!
Was going to take footpegs off for summer.. think I'll be doing it once sprockets are on! |
To be honest, I thought the B1H was a wheelie fest with standard gearing. It is going to be impossible to keep the front end down now (officer).
Anyhow, get them rear pegs off and get a nice exhaust hanger from Mr Harris. Looks a lot cleaner. |
thats my plan Mr Scoobs ;)
yep, it does like to wheelie as it is! thats why I wanna try it with this gearing all of a sudden  will order another front sprocket so I can at least try this one out 8) |
