weaving - help

Hi Guys

I need some advice. I have an K3S pointy and after about 25 minutes riding the front end seems to go very light,, as if i'm riding on ice and the bike weaves. Its is quite unnerving and feels as if the back end is going to step out or the front end will go at any second. This all happens during normal riding and i have no idea what it could be. One thing i have noticed is that the front end preload seems to be screwed down about 10mm and i'm sure this is too much, but the bike only had 1k on it when i got it so i cant see the previous owner having tampered that much. One more thing. I did have an off last year but everything seems ok. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as its scaring me sh*tless at times.

I think I had a similar prob with a GS550L some time back - that was caused by the knackered head bearings...I think. Having said that, mine felt more like just a wobbly front rather than a light & wobbly front.

Get it into a garage quick. And make sure it's someone you trust so they don't take the ****. Ride slow or push it!

I had this with a Zephyr. It was a combination of buggered fork seal, low psi in tyres and forksprings were knackered. Could be your front setup is too hard and yo might have too much air in the tyres. BUt I'm just taking a guess. I'd still take it in somewhere as you really don't want to chance it with the steering/suspension.

Firstly check your tyre pressures, you should be doing this once a week. If they are not correct you will notice the differance straight away once you have the correct pressure in in them.

Hi There

I regularly check the pressures and did so this morning. 33 front, 36 back but still the same after about 20-25 mins or so slight weaving and it feels as if im riding on glass for a few minutes. Pull over have a look everything seems normal then fine for 10 minutes and the same again. Over and over and over

Hummmmm, that is most curious. Wouldn't be a bad idea to drop by a dealers and just ask one of them to put an eye over it to see if they can spot anything obvious.

I know this might sound daft but is it happening when you are crossing over the centre of the road or going over a white line etc. This can sometimes upset the bike, it's the banding in the road where two parts of the tarmac have been joined together, typically down the centre line. The bike can and does sometimes track the line and this makes it feel really unstable. YOu sometime get it a fair bit a road junctions as well.

I would suggest getting it to a garage you trust and get them to give it a look over and a test ride if necessary. You can't be too careful.

Was quite worrying as its just during normal riding. Will drop it in tonight

Check all the engine mountings are tight. My SK3 started to feel vague when peeling in. Found a lower nut completely loose and only being held on the bike by an adjacent breather pipe. Handling now seems to be sorted.

Thats really wierd.

If the rear shock is off, the bike can sit right down on it under any kind of acceleration, and the front end gets all horrible and floaty. But... this is just normal riding  I dont know what to say. Very odd.

Definately worth getting the boys who know give it a look over. (When I was working on push bikes, some guys came in with broken axels. Like they were riding around, not knowing, just dropped it in for a service. If I didnt see it, I wouldnt believe it. )
