chopping exhausts down
 

What do you lot think I have some aftermarked CCC cans on my TDM.

I fancy taking 150mm or 6" in old money , off the length to make them short and stubby.

opinions , technical babble, from what i read most cans are the length they are for noise only I mean look at the GP exhausts short cones on most.

Do it, but may I suggest a smaller reduction? You can always take more off if it's not quite loud/short enough, but you dont want it unbearbly noisy and coke can length.

i had my CCC shortened by the guys there... they did it for nothing as they were re-sleeving anyway. so might be worth giving them a ring :wink:

I am considering getting a power commander fitted by them as you get it all done and set up on the dyno there and then + there is 10% off at the moment :wink:

Do you have any pics of them on the bike, from square on the side? All I did with mine and Matt's was cut it to be in line with the tail.

People may tell you that the length of the can is carefully tuned for backpressure, fuel scavening, etc etc. If CCC actually do this, I'll eat my own head :) When I got mine, they had a stack of identical exhausts and only changed the link pipe for dozens of different bikes.

But if you go really short, it might cause problems, it'll definately make it sound like rubbish IMO. Potato potato. I've seen a few bikes with normal cans just a few inches long, it looks daft and it sounds rotten to my ears.

in that case immagine your Can cut down 6 inches as most cans i see from all different brands appear to be within 1 or 2cm of each other. (there must be a standard they all have to conform to for BS or CE certification ) that's my thinking anyway. :wink:

when i chop them i percieve they will be 250 to 300mm long maybe a tad more. envisage having them in line with the centre of the rear disk.

there is another cosmetic reason for the 6 inch chop as the band around the exhaust has somewhat polished the titanium matt finish to a nice shine. now me being lasy :wink: i would rather cut at the end of that point instead of trying to polish the rest or sand blasting to make it all match. :P

TDM's have pretty short cans as standard don't they? A regular sized CCC would stick out the back like a... a... sticky out back thing. (jesus) Can't quite visualise yours, but I reckon 12 inches is a good length for a can.

I've heard that when bikers are pulled by coppers, they usually check the can; and pretty sure that the estamp (<--is that right?) on it will become invalid. So you could get a fine/told to take it off.

Would sound hot though :wink:

Piccie i want to chop them just on the left side of where the support strap is, so from there to the back will be the new length :lol:
