Not been online for a while, but still as keen on the SV as ever! :wink:

In fact I had a wee problem with the old K1, so went and bought myself a K4 in black, and I have to say it looks the damage 8)

I also have too say, that in comparison to the curvy, I find it alot better to ride. It feels alot lighter, gear changing is smoother and it corners better.

What'dya think of it?

Not exactly killed, more mechanically injured it! :roll:

I'll keep it brief, I had to take the high level Micron race can off that I had on, as the bike was due for an MOT. Whilst taking the front down pipe off, one of the studs sheered :evil:

I then tried to get the remaining part of the stud out but with no luck, forcing it was beginning to crack the casing :evil:

So, then I had the bright idea that I would secure the down pipe with the one remaining stud/nut and weld the other side, just to get it through the MOT. Not being a welder myself I got an experienced welder to do the job, who promptly F$%ked it up by burning through the pipe :evil: So there's now a small pinhole blowing from the pipe!!!

At this point I got fed up and went and bought the K4.

What I need to do with the old bike is get a new front down pipe, cut the sheered stud, drill it out and re-tap the thread, put a new stud in and hey presto problem solved :D

Problem is I don't have the equipment to do the job, or the time. I was thinking of putting in to somewhere to have it fixed. Not sure where though?

Nah I just bought it to look good in the garden, who said anything about riding it :wink:

You know something? Bar the welding, that's exactly what i did to maim my Virago. On the plus side, the heads are a seperate part on an SV, so even if it's utterly fubared you can swap that one bit out. Not a small job, obviously, but you've got a way to go before you reach that I reckon.

You could possibly get that spark abraded out and save the original thread... Not every dealer does it, Alan Duffus used to in Edinburgh but they've closed. Don't see cutting a new one working unless you're one of those freaks who can put it down the old thread... Or helicoil would work I'm sure, but drilling out that stud isn't going to be easy :(

I like your style though. "Oh man, that'll take hours to fix... I'll just get a new one!" (throws old bike in skip) :)

I was the guy at the service desk who approached & recommended the SV to you obvioulsy not knowing you had had one previously.
Cracking bike. I had looked at it in the morning when I dropped mine off.

I wrote mine off on the way home, after spending £143 on a bloody service!!!!!

Met a Dutch woman on a corner on Dukes Pass who forgot which side of the road she should've been on!!!!

Bike didn't look too bad, but apparently "Beyond all economical repair".

Waiting on the offer now.... :( :( :(

sorry to hear about your bike stu. i presume you are ok

Rotten luck... See if you can get the damage report, they might offer it to you as part of the settlement.

Jeez, talk about bad timing. What a bummer. :(
