cutting some out of your seat?
 

its not for me its for a friend :wink: hes got short legs and needs to carve some padding out of his seat, does anyone know a good way of putting the seat covering back on cuz as standard it stapled with very heavy duty staples and we aint got ont of those staple guns :?

i bought a staple gun from homebase for about £15 when i did my seat it coped fairly well with the job or you could take it to an upholsterers (sp?) and get them to recover it for you.

Yep, you really do need a decent staple gun, Arrow or Rapesco or similar is ideal. Not that expensive and it'll be useful in future. I use 8mm zinc plated staples and apply some varnish over them (some seat modifiers use black aerosol) or they will rust fairly soon.

Hold the seat base firmly against something solid, a workbench etc, otherwise it will bounce and the staples only go half way in. You can tap them home with a hammer if you do get some not fully in.

Put the seat on a table and measure up on both sides and mark it with a felt pen so you get it parallel.

A 12" hacksaw is ideal for cutting the seat foam, set the blade at 90deg so it's cutting sideways and take it slowly.

When refitting the cover, warm it so that it's pliable (hairdryer is perfect), and align the front and rear correctly then start stapling midway along each side, working symmetrically forwards and backwards to avoid wrinkles.

did mine with a staple gun... they aint too expensive and are worth it for future..

just be aware- top tip..
some of the staples are long mate-

and therefore at the front thin bit of the seat sides too- if u press on the foam u can feel the ends of the staple... so could be ainful on the leg.. !!

we trim'd some down a few mill :D

Errr just a thought but you could always have bought the shorter legged staples. :wink: :lol:
