I'm sure that you will have checked for a flat battery, but other options

Engine seized
Starter motor knackered
Breakers in the relay are't making contact

Good Luck

you may be lucky and it may just need a bit of a clean.. or the bushes in the starter motor?

Well whacking the starter motor while pressing the button gets it started :D

It sounds like the solenoid is sticking. If you have to whack it.
Usually frees it if you give it a thump.

But if it carries on sticking, strip it down and clean or put another on...
