SV650S 2005 Tweaking
I have Suzuki SV650S 2005.
I am looking forward to fit road legal can and K&N filter to it. But I want to give it more power without fitting race exhaust system. Does anyone can suggest what can be done??? I wuold like to give it more torque and more top speed. What modification I can do for that???? Thank you all. |
Ignition advancer would give you more torque, though it won't do much for top end. If you're not fitting a full system, I wouldn't fit a filter either- just a can, reduces the impact on the fuelling and so should avoid any need to remap.
More top speed? Needs a fair bit of work that to get a result. How often do you want to go over 130mph? Unless you do autobahn riding or similiar, most people would prefer to drop the gearing slightly- yes, it could cost you top speed, but you'll get there much faster and the results around town are handy. If you really want to go faster, realistically consider a bigger bike. |
Agree with Northwind - Ultimate Top Speed is pretty much fixed with an SV. Ign advancer must be the top mod for SV's.
Useability and accelaration however can be further improved upon particularly with the Injected model . Different views exist in respect of the replacement filters available , I suggest you would not notice a big if any difference if this is all you do. If you wish improvements to the airflow then removal of the airbox lid would provide that but with added noise and more importantly - you need to secure location of the airfilter.( Please keep the airfilter  ) A holding band would do that however they are not commonly available on their own. Dont fret with the fuelling - the injected versions generally improve with better breathing mods - being mostly rich throughout the rev/throttle range as standard,. Replacement Exhaust Can will give you a bit of a kick but this may not be on your wish list list as you indicate Good luck |

Where can I get that ignition advancer?? I checked on ebay and they just got for SV1000. Is this a mechanical or electronical thing?? |
Yup, it's a mechanical thing, called a woodruff key. It sits between the crankshaft and the alternator rotor, and changes the ignition timing slightly. It brings the power further down the revs, giving you more torque where you like it. JHS Racing sell the key- you also need a rotor puller. If you search for "rotor and puller" you should get some results.
It's not exactly easy, but at the same time not the hardest job. |
ignition advance
Is this the right thing/helpful to anyone? http://www.factorypro.com/Prod_Pages...on_Advance_Kit

Yup, that's the exact same thing dressed up in Factory Pro packaging :) Good price though, I think I paid £25 for the key and the same again for the tool. You also need the alternator gasket.

why cut it down, i had an xj550, with FZ600 engine exhaust and carbs, this had breathing problems. i drilled the side cover of the airbox full of 5 or 6mm holes.
this cured it perfectly by increasing the airflow throgh the box, but also acts as a rough prefilter, stopping bigger particles flys etc. could this not be done on an SV ? |
