Next service, due when/how do i know

Ok im having a seriously blonde day today!

How/when do i know to take my sv to the dealers to get her serviced? Ive got the service record, and she was last serviced 17/3/04-milage was 11037 miles.
Shes now on 27,185 miles.
I can do a air/oil filter etc change myself, but im worried that she'll need tlc from a dealer, was told she'll need a major service at 30k miles, HELP!!

You mean its not been serviced in all that time

As a rule of thumb, every 4000 miles. Major is at 16, 32 etc. this just includes the checking and adjustment of the valve clearences. On top of that is things like brake pads, tyres, chains etc etc.

HTH

Its had stuff like oil filter etc changed, but nothing else stamped in the service book after the one i said.
So whens she due her next major service nad how much is it going to cost?

Like viney said the next ones due at around 30,000 to 32,000 miles.

It's a major service a bit like the 14.500 mile one which i had done a few weeks back and that cost me £160. But if it's not had much done to it since 11,500 miles it may need a few tweeks here and there and may cost you a bit more.

Ah ok. I would just pop it in when its due for its next oil change. Id say that as long as you keep on top of things likes brakes, chains etc, then a major service should cost you too much. Id plan, if i where you, for at least once a year to get it serviced by a dealer. Thats my current plan.

Sounds to me like it never had valve clearance check done at 15,000 miles.I'd get that done,as you need to know they are within limits. You could check them yourself, but unless you know what you are doing I would get the dealer to make adjustments if they are needed. As for the rest, changing the oil and filters is the main stuff and is easy to do yourself, oiling cables and checking things are tightened up and not about to fall off are the same.Check brake pads for wear and chain adjustment and lube.Mostly stuff you get into the habit of doing yourself as and when.

i have a fully trained mechanic in the shape of my bf, bless him, i'll get him to check the valves etc.Cheers guys. :D
